An Identity’s Radiography
“Chile Poblano: An Identity’s Radiography” was an exhibition that had the objective to promote the intangible heritage and flavors of Puebla City. The project was linked to Puebla’s Flavors Market, a space where people can enjoy traditional food, with the purpose of giving the visitors a richer experience in which they could delight the palate and at the same time understand the history and diversity of Puebla’s culinary heritage.
The project’s scopes were multiple. Our team conducted several visits and interviews to the merchants of Puebla’s Flavors Market to learn more about the different approaches and preparation methods of traditional “moles” and broths that use hot peppers in their ingredients. Based on this research we made a selection of the chilies used on these dishes and photographed their many shapes and sizes. The visual language we used was inspired on the colorful mesh market bags, as well as the signs used in the fruit-and-vegetable stalls.
We developed the hand-drawn typeface “Campechano” for all communication materials, which included social media banners, information leaflets and the exhibition itself. We also used the image of a dissected poblano pepper to convey the idea that there is a lot to know about it from its core. We also designed the exhibition’s route, giving the visitor a multi-sensorial experience that was very successful, especially during “chile en nogada” season.
